So, I completed a mock-up of the gored skirt I'm working on. It's really simple, so the mock-up didn't take long to put together. I didn't bother putting in the pockets, I just wanted to check the fit, since I hadn't used my skirt blocks in a while. I'm worried that there might be a little wonkiness going on in the back, but I'm going to see what it looks like with the middle and sides are different colours. I was also running out of muslin, which is why some panels are longer than others. I'm not worried about the bottom, so I just made do. I need to go muslin shopping though. I apologize for the terrible lighting, it was after midnight and I was too tired to fight with my point-and-shoot so I just used the underwater setting. I'll use my Nikon for the finished product.
The next step is my least favourite part of sewing: ironing fabric.

Project 1: Gored Skirt
So my plan with this blog is to follow along with my design projects, probably intermixed with some inspirations and everyday stuff as well. So here we go...
The project I started last night and that will be the first to be feature on my blog (henceforth referred to as "Project 1") is a two-tone gored skirt. I already have the fabric, as I had the initial idea for this skirt well over a year ago, but was not really set up for sewing in my old place (I moved 2 weeks ago).
I've posted up the newest sketch (the top in the sketch will probably be one of my next projects). Sketching is not one of my strong points, so it's a good thing I can sew. I'm not sure where I would be without a croquis! I didn't bother to put in colours since I already know what fabric I'll be using: pink and green poplin.
Last night I also did some drafting in 1/4 scale, which I find to be a great way to organize my thoughts before I start on the full scale. Which is good, because I ended up making some changes between the 1/4 and full scale drafts!
Let me know what you think! You can click to make the pictures larger.

Hello!
Hi!
Welcome to my new blog, Fashion Design Dreams! I guess this is where I should introduce myself to everyone. I'm Megan, I'm 22 years old and I am currently living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. One of the biggest passions in my life (along side my other love, horses) is fashion and fashion design. Hence the reason for this blog, which I hope to use to follow my adventures in fashion design. I guess you could say I'm a serial blogger, as I used to run a different little fashion blog called Pudding and Pie. The past few months or year, however, I've found the stress of taking outfit photos and cataloging designer collections was losing its fun so I let it fall into inactivity. Instead, I wanted to start a new blog focusing on my own fashion design process, rather than on clothes made by other people. So, today at work, while sketching some designs, I thought about doing a blog about fashion design, rather than just fashion. So here we are: Fashion Design Dreams.
So that's a little about me and why I started the blog. Below is a picture of me in a dress I designed as part of the design class I took last year. More fun stuff to follow!
